Early on, Joaquin Correa got things started, but Nicolo Barella stole the show with a spectacular volley and a helper for Lautaro Martinez to seal a convincing victory. Cremonese exhibited bravery, but possibly to an unsatisfactory degree, as Inter frequently pounced on openings, beginning with Correa's goal. Federico Dimarco halted a turn and released Barella. The midfielder connected with Edin Dzeko, whose shot was parried directly into Correa's path.
Cyriel Dessers and Charles Pickel of the visitors elected to continue attacking, but another counter resulted in Inter's second goal. Calhanoglu floated a pass to the edge of the box, which Barella met delightfully. He ended any dreams of a comeback by drilling his shot into the Cremonese net. To Cremonese's credit, they continued to gamble. Dessers missed yet another opportunity, and Luca Zanimacchia forced Milan Skriniar to clear the goal line.
