Ex-Sunderland goalkeeper Remi Matthews has sealed a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace. The goalkeeper had entered into a one-year contract with Black Cats last summer but could not earn a place on the side, Matthews was sidelined for most of the 2020-21 campaign as Phil Parkinson and Lee Johnson preferred Lee Burge over him.
Matthews ended up making just 11 appearances for Sunderland. Less playtime forced the player to look elsewhere and the 27-year-old is now set to play for Crystal Palace in the Premier League. With the Eagles as well he would face tough intra competition with the likes of Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland in the lineup as well. For the Eagles, this has been a year of turmoil after Roy Hodgson left the side and Patrick Vieira was appointed as the new manager.
