Dortmund's Sancho moved clear of Messi as Europe's top assist provider

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is the top goal provider in European football - ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi - after helping his side to victory over Wolfsburg and a return to the top of the Bundesliga on Matchday 27.

England winger Sancho provided the assist for Paco Alcàcer's second in Matchday 27's late 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg, which sent Dortmund back above Bayern, adding to the two he registered in BVB's thrilling 3-2 win away to Hertha Berlin before the international break.

It means the 18-year-old has now created 13 goals this season – a feat no other player can match across Europe’s top five leagues with Messi his closest rival on 12. Bayern's Joshua Kimmich is next on the list in Germany with 10, followed by Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt and Eintracht Frankfurt's Sebastien Haller, who both have nine.
