Elche holds back La Liga leaders Real Madrid

Real Madrid gave their title rivals a chance to catch up as Elche holds them back with the 2-2 draw in the recent La Liga match. Madrid squandered the chance to take their lead to six points over second-placed Sevilla but Karim Benzema wasted an important, what could have been a game-changing penalty then left the match midway injured at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid played with two players down in the final 11 minutes but Elche could not find the winner despite the golden opportunity to overthrow the current La Liga leaders. Real was two down before Lucas Boye and Pere Milla had put Elche ahead and rescued a point when they leveled the score with Luka Modric’s late penalty and the 92nd-minute stoppage-time header from Eder Militao.
