Empoli beats struggling Sampdoria 1-0

In the seventh minute of stoppage time, Omar Colley believed he had tied the score, setting off wild celebrations among the Sampdoria players. However, the goal was disallowed due to handball in the buildup. Sampdoria's sixth defeat in its past seven games left them seven points from safety. Empoli moved into mid-table, 13 points above the relegation zone, following its first victory of the year.

In the 55th minute, Tyronne Ebuehi headed in a corner to score his first goal for Empoli and his first in Serie A. Mehdi Léris of Samp struck the crossbar in the opening period. In the dying moments, the visitors surrounded the Empoli goal, but goalie Guglielmo Vicario made some outstanding saves. In the last moments, Samp goalkeeper Emilio Audero entered the game and helped to set up Colley, but the referee later determined that Samp striker Manolo Gabbiadini handled the ball just before it reached Audero.
