England kick-started their Euro 2020 campaign by taking down Croatia 1-0 in the Group D match-up in London. Raheem Sterling netted for England, making it his first goal in a major soccer tournament. Sterling had scored just once in his previous 13 appearances for Manchester City and England found his chance to change that in the 57th minutes with Kalvin Phillip. The Leeds midfielder was handed the tournament debut along with five other players and helped set up the goal that made its way into the net with a touch-off Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković.
Also, the 17-year-old midfielder Jude Bellingham, replaced England captain Harry Kane in the 82nd minute to become the youngest-ever player to appear at a European Championship beating Jetro Willems’ record.
