Borussia Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 3-2 after Erling Haaland scored the game's first goal. Despite being outplayed for much of the game, Marco Rose's side recovered from a stunning cup setback in midweek by clawing their way to a win that takes them within three points of league leaders Bayern Munich. Dortmund got off to a flying start, slicing through the Hoffenheim defense with a fantastic line of passes on six minutes, setting up Haaland for a tap-in goal.
Hoffenheim subsequently missed several decent chances before Andrej Kramaric equalized on the stroke of half-time with a brilliant volley. On the counter-attack, Marco Reus restored Dortmund's lead, before an own-goal by David Raum appeared to seal the three points for Dortmund. Late on, Georginio Rutter got a goal back for Hoffenheim, and Dortmund survived by the skin of their teeth when Sebastian Rudy squandered a golden opportunity to equalize in the 89th minute.
