EURO 2020: Italy takes down Austria 2-1

Italy leveled up its game against Austria at Euro 2020 by a winning score of 2-1. Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina made their mark by scoring extra-time goals. Mancini introduced four forward substitutes late in the second half, and Italy's squad depth proved crucial in the end, as Juventus winger Chiesa and Atalanta midfielder Pessina saved their blushes with stunning finishes. Chiesa scored in the 95th minute with a shot past Daniel Bachmann, and Pessina, who also scored against Wales, appeared to have sealed victory 10 minutes later with another exquisite goal.

Austria, though, received a late lifeline when substitute Sasa Kalajdzic cut the lead in half with six minutes remaining, and Italy's nerves were frazzled by the time referee Anthony Taylor sounded the final whistle. Italy's 31st match without defeat, a new national record, has advanced it to the quarterfinals against either Belgium or Portugal, where it will need to perform far better.
