Argentina and the Netherlands were both found to have breached Fifa's integrity rules after their bad-tempered quarter-final clash at the 2022 World Cup, the governing body announced recently. The Netherlands came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 before Argentina won on penalties. Mateu Lahoz issued 18 yellow cards - a World Cup record - in the game. Denzel Dumfries, a Dutch right-back, was sent off after picking up two bookings.
Fifa informd that its disciplinary committee had extended proceedings against Argentina "due to potential breaches of articles 12 (misconduct of players and officials) and 16 (order and security at matches)". The Dutch Football Association had been warned by Fifa for "potential breaches of article 12 (misconduct of players and officials) of Fifa's disciplinary code" as well as for "potential breaches of article 12 of Fifa's disciplinary code in relation to the same match".
