The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Thursday had to experience a tormenting loss of 4-0 at the hands of World-Cup-bound Portugal in an international friendly match. Portugal gained the lead through Manchester United midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes in the 9th minute. Bruno then later converted it from the penalty spot in the 35th minute to finish off a dominating first half from the A-Selecao in Lisbon. Two swift and fiery goals from Goancalo Ramos and Joao Mario in the 82nd and 84th minute concluded the game for Portugal over the former Africa champions who won’t be present at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Portugal will now direct their attention to the World Cup proper in Qatar. They are put in Group H alongside South Korea, Ghana and Uruguay. The Fernando Santos-led team will kickstart their campaign on November 24 against Ghana.
