Former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to join Dutch giants Ajax on a short-term deal lasting until the current season ends. The Japanese international is scheduled to undergo a medical examination as he finalizes his move to the club in Amsterdam.
BBC Sport reported in July that Tomiyasu and Arsenal mutually agreed to terminate his contract a year early, leaving him as a free agent on the market. Because Arsenal signed Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera in the summer, Tomiyasu's first-team chances became limited, paving the way for his imminent exit. The twenty-seven year old has been finishing a rehabilitation programme following knee surgery in February, though he is now back in full training. He is poised to restart his career in the Eredivisie with Ajax, assuming he passes necessary medical tests.
Sources confirmed this agreement with Ajax excludes any option for extension beyond the conclusion of the campaign.
