France edged England 2-1 in the quarter-final on Saturday to lock in a World Cup semifinal against Morocco, the first African nation to make it to the World Cup's semi-finals. As France dominated possession in the opening 10 minutes, Olivier Giroud's header in the 78th minute broke a tie.
France went on to dominate the game in the early chapters, but it took until Aurelien Tchouameni scored on a through-ball from Bukayo Saka to goal. The goal came after Dayot Upamecano intercepted the ball from Bukayo Saka deep in the English half and headed it the other way, then turned the ball into a grand sequence of passes that ended with Tchouameni scoring from about 30 yards. The goal was the second of 10 scored by a French player other than Mbappe or Giroud and it ended a 287-minute scoreless streak for England goalie Jordan Pickford.
