Defending champions France wrapped up the group phase as Group D leaders in spite of a 1-0 loss to Tunisia at the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday. Tunisia almost witnessed their impressive win over Didier Deschamps' men slither away in the last minute, but Antoine Griezmann's goal was ruled out by VAR. Although, it was not sufficient to let the African team lock a place in the last 16 as they ranked third in the group. France and Australia were the top two finishers and advanced.
Captain Wahbi Khazri fired the victorious goal for Tunisia in the 58th minute through an impressive solo presentation, as he dribbled from the middle circle to the box and netted the ball into the far corner. He is the first African player to have shot in three consecutive beginnings in World Cup history.
