The Spanish outfit were due to play in Milan for the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie against Inter on March 12, however they refused to travel as the Coronavirus was rapidly spreading throughout northern Italy at the time.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Getafe coach Bordalàs says it was the correct call to make.
“The President’s decision was incredibly spot on. Travelling at that moment was tremendously risky,” Bordalàs told the Milan daily.
“Just think of what happened to others who went to Milan around that time, such as Valencia [to play Atalanta] or Real Madrid for basketball. Our stance has been positive for us and for football: it has opened the eyes of others".
The Getafe boss however was full of praise for Inter.
