Borussia Monchengladbach did end their three-match winning streak but still climbed closer to safety with one point as they kept Mainz to a 1-1 draw in the latest Bundesliga matchup. Hosts went ahead with Breel Embolo’s opening goal in the 33rd minute who pushed the ball into the net with a low shot.
Mainz took control later in the second half, and Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Somme denied the side a goal by saving Jonathan Burkardt’s shot but ultimately conceded to Karim Onisiwo in the 73rd minute. Gladbach is now 12th on the table and stretch the gap to eight points clear of the danger zone. Mainz on the other hand enjoys a better placing at 10th place with a four-point lead.
