Newcastle United saw off Southampton in the Premier League fixture to post their sixth win in seven matches. Magpies’ January signing Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood lifted the team ahead and scored against Eddie Howe's side to win by 2-1 at St Mary's. Wood’s goal marked an end to a goal drought of 14 matches as he answered Stuart Armstrong's goal before Guimaraes scored the winner with a solo run.
Saints' lacked a competitive edge at home their first meaningful attack came after 20 minutes of the match when Armando Broja pushed past Newcastle's defense but Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka stole from Broja and halted his attack. Broja came close at the 23rd minute as well but shot wide and wasted another opportunity for the Saints.
