Hoffenheim defeated Schalke 3-0

Prior to the weekend's games, the victory sent Hoffenheim up four spots to third on Friday, one place ahead of Bayern Munich. After their fourth straight defeat, Schalke and under-fire coach Frank Kramer are ranked 16th in the 18-team league. Following a careless studs-up charge on Christoph Baumgartner by Schalke defender Leo Greiml in the seventh minute, lucky to escape injury, Hoffenheim grabbed the lead on Robert Skov's penalty kick. Initially, the challenge went unnoticed by the referee, but it was evident to the video assistant referee.

Oliver Baumgart stopped Thomas Ouwejan's attempt after Florent Mollet's speculative shot hit the foot of the post, giving Schalke an opportunity to tie the score. Just before halftime, Baumgart played a significant part in Hoffenheim's second goal. Georginio Rutter was allowed free on the counterattack after the goalkeeper stopped a header at a corner and advanced the ball.
