Hungary out of World Cup after late dramatic home defeat

In a dramatic World Cup qualifier, the Republic of Ireland secured a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Hungary in Budapest, clinching a play-off spot for the 2026 tournament.

Hungary started strongly, with Dániel Lukács opening the scoring just three minutes into the match. Ireland responded swiftly when Troy Parrott converted a penalty in the 15th minute to level the score. Barnabás Varga then restored Hungary's lead with a stunning volley before halftime.

The second half saw a determined Irish side push for an equalizer, which came in the 80th minute through another Parrott goal. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Parrott completed his hat-trick in the 96th minute, sealing a memorable comeback victory for Ireland and a place in the World Cup qualifying play-offs.
