Inter Milan began their Italian league title defense by sweeping through Genoa 4-0 on Saturday, an encouraging performance from the champions after a tumultuous offseason. Milan Skriniar and Hakan Calhanoglu put Simone Inzaghi's team up two goals after 13 minutes, before Arturo Vidal and Edin Dzeko scored in the second half to complete the thrashing in front of just over 27,000 spectators.
Skriniar opened the goal five minutes into the new season with a thundering header from a corner by Calhanoglu, who doubled Inter's advantage eight minutes later after swapping passes with fellow new recruit Dzeko. Dzeko was outstanding upfront and was denied his debut goal in the 24th minute when his deflected shot glanced off the bar as Inter dominated.
