England could not end their 55-year long wait even after they stood strong against an aggressive Italy for 120 minutes. The Three Lions within two minutes of the match proved to Italy that they would not accept defeat easily with Luke Shaw’s early opener at Wembley. They maintained their lead in the first half but in the 67th minute, Leonardo Bonucci's close-range shot was too perfect for Jordan Pickford to save. Italy thus leveled the score and England were strong in their first major international final since 1966 and defended well even in the extra time.
Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish came on in the 99th minute as well to help England get their hands on the trophy but the finale finished with a 1-1 draw and penalties decided the Euro 2020 winner in the dramatic final. Italy missed the shoot-out first but later prevailed with a 3-2 score as England’s youngsters missed their shot in the last three penalties and decided to wait some more for a major trophy.
