Japan beat Spain 2-1

Japan and Spain progressed to the knockout stages after Japan's amazing returning victory over Spain to stand atop Group E at the Qatar FIFA World Cup. Japan has come back from 1-0 down to thrash Spain and lock in the top spot in Group E at the Khalifa International Stadium.

None of the teams in Group E was given a spot in the Round of 16 going into this morning's games, with Germany going against Costa Rica in the other fixture. Japan has pinnacled the group with six points, while Spain advanced to second place on four points owing to a huge goal difference tally. Germany was compelled to battle to defeat Costa Rica 4-2 after the Central American gained the lead in the second half to make it 2-1.
