Jesse Lingard struck twice to help West Ham defeat Aston Villa 3-1

Dean Smith’s side saw their problems exposed after Hammers pulled off a total of 20 attempts on their goal. West Ham United's Tomas Soucek opened the score against Villa on their home ground as he fired his eighth goals of the season from central midfield. Smith later downplayed the fatigue element but it was clear as day after a grueling last week Villa players were tired and would have been rightfully so after being struck down at home they ran against Man City, later took on a relatively easy game against Newcastle and a battle against Burnley and in the end Southampton, while West Ham was charged up and looked ready.

Manchester United loanee gave West Ham purpose and brought in a fresh perspective while Ollie Watkins did manage to score once but Hammers were stronger. Villa will now take on a struggling Arsenal side at home and announce their comeback.
