France's Karim Benzema was positive in tests carried out by Real Madrid ahead of his return to training. After his post-Euro holidays, the striker was expected to join Carlo Ancelotti's squad on Friday.
The Spanish side did not give many more details and this was their brief statement: "Real Madrid C.F. informs that our player Karim Benzema has tested positive for COVID-19."
This positive test makes Real Madrid's preparations more difficult with only three weeks to go before the start of the Spanish league season. After crashing out of the Euros with France, in the competition that sealed the Frenchman's return to the national team, the striker went on holiday and will now have to complete the obligatory quarantine before returning to work.
