A rematch of last year's UEFA Champions League final, saw Paris Saint-Germain on top this time as they beat the defending champions, Bayern Munich by 3-2 in an away match. PSG was determined to change their story this time and had Kylian Mbappe to thank with his spectacular double against Bayern that sealed a win at Allainz Arena in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
Mbappe opened early in three minutes with Neymar’s assist and Marquinhos later doubled the lead within half an hour and ensuring a steep climb for Bayern. Though they had former PSG striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to thank for pulling one back and later Thomas Muller leveled the score on the hour mark as the most exciting match left everyone on the edge of their seat. And Mbappe brilliantly scored the winning goal pushing it past Jerome Boateng's legs to take the lead.
