Barca had a fantastic first half and led by three goals before the interval, but Celta came roaring back in the final 45 minutes, and Iago Aspas shattered Barça's hearts once more with an equalizer in the game's final play. Barcelona was just brilliant in the first 45 minutes, with Iago Aspas having the game's first chance when he was one-on-one with Marc-André ter Stegen but missing the target entirely.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with the exception that the two teams flipped roles: Celta was on the front foot, pressing high and playing high-intensity attacking football, while Barça stayed back and struggled to execute the fundamentals. Celta had two goals disallowed in the opening 30 minutes of the final period, one for offside and the other for handball, as well as a strong penalty claim, refused by the referee.
