L'Equipe's team of 2018: three from Real Madrid with Ronaldo and Messi

French newspaper L'Equipe have chosen their best XI from 2018, in which five of those who featured in 2017's edition are named with Marcelo, N'Golo Kanté, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi all returning.

Antoine Griezmann's omission is the big surprise this year, though, while Real Madrid have three players in the line-up.

In full, the team is: Jan Oblak, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raphael Varane, Virgil van Dijk, Marcelo, Kante, Modric, Messi, Eden Hazard, Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 2017 team, meanwhile, was: Gianluigi Buffon, Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos, Mats Hummels, Marcelo, Kante, Modric, Neymar, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.
