Ligue 1: A draw 1-1 for Lyon vs Brest

Olympique Lyonnais was held to a surprising 1-1 home draw by Brest at the start of its Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday, as both teams missed a slew of chances. Lyon went behind to an Irvin Cardona goal in the 43rd minute before substitute Islam Slimani equalized with his first touch of the ball in the 62nd. In the 71st minute, Dembele headed wide with the goal at his disposal.

Brest, which just avoided relegation last season, had a pair of golden chances shortly after the interval, with Marcelo clearing a Romain Faivre shot off the line before Lopes saved a thunderous Brendan Chardonnet header. Soon after, Karl Toko Ekambi headed a deep cross from the left into Slimani's path, and the Algerian striker volleyed home from 10 meters after bringing the ball into his stride.
