With Lingard’s contract expiring in the summer, there has been speculation that the 29-year-old could leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis, with West Ham United and Newcastle United among a number of suitors reportedly keen to sign him.
But The Athletic has learned that Newcastle do not intend to pursue the situation at present.
Regardless, as revealed in David Ornstein’s weekly column, it is believed Lingard has decided he will not be making a switch during the upcoming window, choosing instead to stay and battle for a way into interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s plans.
Lingard is about to enter the last six months of his contract and after talks over a fresh deal earlier in the year failed to progress, no further dialogue has taken place and none is scheduled for now.
