Luis Suàrez missed as Uruguay lost to Peru on penalties

Nine of the 10 penalties in the penalty shootout between Uruguay and Peru were converted, with Luis Suàrez's miss with the opening kick of the shootout the only one that didn't ripple the net.

As one of the leaders of the national team, it is heartbreaking for Suàrez to have missed the decisive spot kick. This was clear to see as the striker broke down into tears at the end of the shootout, needing to be consoled by teammates.

What happened this Saturday evening at the Arena Fonte Nova will be hard for him to overcome and to put behind him. He'd already suffered disappointment during the 90 minutes as he had a goal ruled out for offside, one of three Uruguayan goals that didn't ultimately count on the scoreboard. Then his penalty hit Pedro Gallese's stomach and ultimately led to Uruguay's elimination.
