Forwards Maxwell Cornet and Nabil Fekir scored first-half goals as Lyon won 2-1 at Montpellier on Wednesday to reach the French Cup quarterfinals. After 13 minutes, Cornet gave Lyon the lead, and in the 22nd, striker Jonathan Ikone equalised. Five minutes later, Fekir gave Lyon the lead again from the penalty spot, sending custodian Benjamin Lecomte the wrong way. Near the end, Fekir had a chance to score again but hurriedly volleyed over an open goal from close range.
After a 2-2 draw against Metz away from home and a dramatic penalty shootout in which Metz squandered a chance to win, Caen advanced. Third-division and second-division lenses Chambly progressed farther, joining Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille, and Les Herbiers, a team from the third level, in the last eight. Strasbourg visits Grenoble on Thursday for the last round match.
