Mahrez:‘Ready to face Argentina...We aim to make Algeria proud in the World Cup'

Riyad Mahrez has declared Algeria fully prepared for the 2026 World Cup, stressing the squad’s determination to honour the nation on football’s biggest stage. Speaking upon arrival in the United States, the captain said the team’s priority is to “make our families and country proud,” highlighting a collective focus and strong internal motivation. Algeria open their Group J campaign on 17 June against Argentina, a match Mahrez described as demanding but one they will approach with their usual concentration.

The Manchester City winger also praised the warm reception given by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune before the team’s departure, calling it an important morale boost ahead of the tournament. Mahrez insisted the squad still has a week to fine‑tune preparations but feels confident in their readiness. Algeria will face Jordan on 23 June before concluding the group stage against Austria on 28 June, aiming to deliver performances worthy of their supporters’ expectations.
