Manchester City put up a strong performance to break Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season with a well-deserved win at Stamford Bridge 1-0. The reigning champions crushed a rather timid and conservative Chelsea in a match between two clubs expected to battle for the Premier League champions this season.
Gabriel Jesus' 53rd-minute effort took a deflection off Jorginho and beat Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy - but few could argue with City's right to win against the team that upset them in the Champions League final in May, and the margin of victory should have been significantly greater. Aymeric Laporte should have scored but slipped a shot wide from inside the six-yard box, while Jesus almost added a second when Thiago Silva cleared his effort off the line. Mendy also made two key saves against the outstanding Jack Grealish.
