Gareth Southgate has told Jesse Lingard he will have more chance of continuing to be involved with England if he is playing regularly.
Lingard has been included in the Three Lions squad for World Cup qualifiers with Hungary, Andorra and Poland during the September international break despite playing only four minutes in Manchester United's first two Premier League games of the season.
The 28-year-old missed the opening game of the season with Covid but he returned to the bench at Southampton on Sunday.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said Lingard remains part of his plans, West Ham United could yet rest his resolve to keep the academy graduate with a bid before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Lingard shone on loan at the Hammers in the second half of last season and they've been interested in making that move permanent during the summer transfer window.
