Manchester City 2-0 Brentford

Manchester City secured the three points in a comfortable win with Riyad Mahrez’s penalty and Kevin de Bruyne’s goal that took City 12 points clear at the highest point of the table. Liverpool still has two games advantage in the title race and can clearly give the defending champions a run for their money. Brentford, in the interim, has now lost six matches in succession and are stuck in the relegation battle.

City began gradually, but Brentford's 5-4-1 restricted the space into which they could assault. Later City found their opportunity when Mads Roerslev slid into Raheem Sterling for reasons unknown, and Mahrez punished the visitors with an effortless penalty. City overwhelmed the visitors later but had a tough time finding the second goal until Brentford’s David Raya passed directly to Raheem Sterling who set up De Bruyne and scored in an unfilled net.
