Manchester United and Newcastle United advanced to the English League Cup

Tuesday saw the semifinals of the English League Cup (Carabao Cup) between Manchester United and Newcastle United. Man Utd beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the quarterfinals as Antony scored the opener in the 21st minute at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford, an English attacker, scored two late goals for Manchester United to increase their lead to 3-0. Manchester United, who hasn't won a significant trophy since 2017, has advanced to the semifinal round. 

In the other quarterfinal game, Newcastle United defeated Leicester City 2-0 at St. James' Park thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton in the second half. Newcastle United, now supported by Saudi investors, has gone 68 years without a local championship. The 1955 FA Cup victory remains the Magpies' last domestic triumph. In the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday, Manchester City will travel to Southampton and Nottingham Forest will play Wolverhampton Wanderers.
