Marseille stays firm on second after beating AS Monaco

Olympique de Marseille grabbed their sixth back-to-back win in the Ligue 1 to come back after their disappointing run in the Champions League. André Villas-Boas celebrated the 2-1 win over AS Monaco to stay second on the table behind PSG by just one point. They stay the course to top Ligue 1 and could do so if they win against RC Lens on 3rd January.

OM had taken the 2-0 lead quite early in the game when Florian Thauvin and Dario Benedetto found the net in the 5th and 13th minute respectively and kept their lead-safe until Wissam Ben Yedder cut their lead in half by converting a late penalty in the 79th minute for Monaco. The Manchester City loss of 3-0 had shaken OM to the core but this much-needed win motivated the squad who were still reeling from exhaustion.
