Mexico missed qualifying for the last 16 of the World Cup in spite of defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1. El Tri began the final round of Group C fixtures while laying at the bottom but still managed to bridge the gap by a considerable amount. They nearly made it to the top two after second-half goals from Henry Martin and Luis Chavez, the latter shooting with a brilliant 25-yard free-kick.
With Poland on their way to a 2-0 loss to Argentina, Mexico knew unless they shot once more, they would be shown out of the contest because the Polish men had gathered lesser yellow cards with all other tie-breakers equal between the two countries.
Still, the Mexican desires were finished in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Saudi skipper Salem Al Dawsari ployed a nice one-two with Hatan Bahbri and amazingly converted.
