Mo Salah would not play for Egypt in the Olympics

Liverpool’s Mo Salah had the opportunity to represent Egypt in the Tokyo Olympics in the summer event which is set to start this month. Liverpool though blocked Salah from representing Egypt as they do not have to release the player for games that are not on the FIFA calendar.

The Tokyo Olympics though would have ended seven days before the 2021-2022 Premier League season started. Egypt coach Shawky Gharib had asked the Premier League side to release the star but the club refused to let him go even when Salah was a key part of the team’s Olympic plan. Jurgen Klopp wants to give the Reds forward a full pre-season this time. Salah had previously helped Egypt to their first World Cup in 2018 at Russia but was not a part of Egypt's squad when they released the list.
