Morocco 2-0 Belgium

Belgium, who stood third in Russia four years ago, could have qualified for the last 16 with a win but instead yielded another tasteless game after their lucky opening victory over Canada. Substitute Sabiri was the icon, owing to a 73rd-minute free-kick which Thibaut Courtois permitted to bounce in at his near post, before Aboukhlal snatched a second in stoppage time. Morocco replace Belgium at the top of Group F and know they will qualify for the knockout phase for the first time since 1986 if they can avoid loss against Canada on Thursday.

Belgium, the world’s second-ranked side, will have to defeat 2018 runners-up Croatia to keep going. Belgian captain Eden Hazard admitted a "not as good as in 2018" performance and confessed that they lacked spark and were made to pay by inspired opposition.
