Roma was dominant only in the starting 10 minutes of the game which was all the warm-up Napoli needed to power through the rest of the match with a determined stride. Roma was on the roll with five straight wins under their belt, and on its way to battle the hottest team in the league with an eye on the second place, they were hopeful while they entered San Paolo. But little did they know Napoli planned on attacking while they had their guard down. Napoli reeled them in at the start letting Leonardo Spinazzola run rampant while Pedro, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Rick Karsdorp seemed to be in-form.
Napoli then physically took over the game with a 63% possession rate they denied Roma opportunities to score. Lorenzo Insigne later scored in the 31st minute Fabian Ruiz than stuck in the 64th minute, Dries Mertens and Matteo Politano seized an opportunity to feature in the scoresheet as well.
