Napoli moved provisionally nine points clear at the top of Serie A

As a result of Hirving Lozano's 69th-minute penalty kick and Piotr Zielinski's deft late goal, hosts Napoli defeated a tenacious Empoli team and surpassed AC Milan. After Sebastiano Luperto received a second caution shortly after Lozano's score, Empoli finished with 10 men and thus remain in 14th place, five points above the relegation zone. Five minutes after Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian striker had missed the only other serious opportunity for the home team by heading the ball over, Razvan Marin fouled him, earning Napoli their penalty.

With two minutes remaining, Zielinski brilliantly met Lozano's cross with a first-time strike to open his league account for the season, thus ending Empoli's challenge after Luperto's dismissal. For significant portions of the game, Napoli was without injured wing wizard Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. To ultimately defeat tenacious Empoli with a Hirving Lozano penalty and a Piotr Zielinski goal, Napoli put up a lot of effort.
