No reward for Humble Lion at Effortville Community Centre

Humble Lion were left cursing their luck after failing to put one past Harbour View Football Club in a lively, but goalless Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) contest at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon yesterday.

It was a match that promised much and delivered to some extent despite neither team chalking up victory to cut into the lead of Waterhouse FC and Molynes United FC — on 19 points apiece — but who were on the losing end of 3-1 scorelines against Mount Pleasant Football Academy and Cavalier FC,respectively.

This is the second consecutive goalless result for both Humble Lion and Harbour View, who were left satisfied with the point.

Both teams have managed to muster up an unbeaten streak with Harbour View now on a four-game run with one win and three draws, while Humble Lion's four-game run includes one win and three draws.

With the point, Harbour View remain in third position on 12 points, while Humble Lion have slipped to fifth position on 11 points behind Cavalier, who also have 11 points.

After nudging the promoted Molynes United train off track, Harbour View would have gone to Clarendon with their tails high, but it was the hosts who dominated possession.

In fact, Humble Lion also created the better clear-cut chances in the game and forced the visitors back into their half on a number of occasions. However, Harbour View and their custodian Akeem Smith, in particular, were in a defiant mood.

Smith first came up big in the 40th minute, diving low to his left to block Shamar Rhoden's well-taken left-footed free kick from approximately 25-yards out. And he reacted well to again block Andre Clennon's stinging right-footed effort from the rebound.

In the 55th minute, Kenneil Hyde unleashed a fierce header from Rhoden's weighted corner kick, but Smith, using every inch of his lanky frame, did well to tip over.

The resulting corner saw Hyde glancing a header from the front post towards goal, but the defence did well to mop up on that occasion.

Three minutes later, Courtney Hill found himself unmarked with a good look at goal inside the penalty area but was hesitant and eventually charged down by a recovering defender.

Humble Lion again held their heads in despair when Clennon climbed well above the defenders to turn Lorenzo Lewin's weighted cross towards goal, but Smith tipped the header onto the right upright and almost into the net on a second attempt to clear his lines.

While that summed up the day for Humble Lion, Harbour View also played their part and had a few look ins on the break but failed to really trouble Dennis Taylor in goal for Humble Lion.
