Another year and another record broken in the Italian League and with VAR having direct influence on the refereeing decisions during games, you won’t get away with anything inside the area anymore.
Serie A has set a new record of 152 penalties and that is with eight games remaining. So far the Italian League averages five penalties every round of fixtures and if it continues at the same pace for the rest of the season the final number would be 192 spot kicks at the end of the campaign.
Last year saw a decrease in penalties, with only 122 given in the 2018-19 season, compared to 126 the year before.
Udinese haven’t been awarded a single penalty this term, but despite leaving one side out of the equation in 2019-20.
