Portugal beat Switzerland to qualify for the World Cup 2022 quarter-finals

Cristiano Ronaldo’s substitution Goncalo Ramos secured a thrashing hattrick as Portugal mercilessly defeated the Switzerland squad by a whopping 6-1 to qualify for the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals. The noteworthy piece of information prior to the match at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar was that Ronaldo had been sent to the bench because of his misconduct and antics in the loss to South Korea.

However, even with the non-attendance of the legendary forward, Fernando Santos’ team totally domineered the game for 90 minutes, with 21-year-old Benfica striker Ramos kickstarting the scoring after just 17 minutes with a strong strike. In the lack of Ronaldo's presence, 39-year-old centre-back Pepe captained Portugal and doubled their lead before half-time, moving in from Bruno Fernandes’ corner. After the break, Ramos made it three when he touched home Diogo Dalot’s low cross, before Raphael Guerreiro kicked off a gorgeous team goal for four.
