Angry clubs have complained to the Premier League about the Newcastle United purchase and are calling for an emergency meeting next week. The other 19 Premier League clubs are said to be united in their opposition to a Saudi-led consortium being allowed to buy out Mike Ashley and are demanding to know what changed for it to be approved, as well as why they were given such little warning.
Clubs have voiced concern that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) taking an 80 percent share in Newcastle could harm the Premier League's reputation, though this would raise eyebrows given the identities of other owners in the league. Human rights groups have slammed the agreement, particularly because Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman oversees PIF, the state's sovereign wealth fund.
