Rayo Vallecano beat Espanyol 2-0

Both of the teams had to lose a player each. After the departure of Florian Lejeune and Sergi Gomez, Isi Palazon held down the fort for Rayo. On 40 minutes, Isi Palazon had already smacked home the opener and Pathe Ciss also tapped home from a corner on the hour to make it 2-0. Although Espanyol struggled as well by hitting the post twice in the final 10 minutes.

In just 16 minutes, Rayo defender Florian Lejeune was shown the way out after receiving a second yellow card. The Espanyol defender Sergio Gomez was no less aggressive as he also got red carded for a violent foul on the half hour. Iraola sent in Radamel Falcao, a veteran, as a late substitute. The Espanyol player Javier Puado was denied a consolation goal in the closing exchanges.
