REPORT: Liberty Professionals truncates WAFA’s home dominance with a 2-1 win at

Liberty Professionals picked their first away win of the season with a 2-1 win over WAFA at the Sogakope Park on Friday to set the tone for a wonderful weekend of glittering football.

WAFA have an impeccable home record in the Ghana Premier League as they rarely drop points at home to any side irrespective of who visits their grounds.

But their resilience at home was put to test by the Scientific Soccer lads who almost played their Matchday 6 encounter without a substantive coach.

Liberty Professionals knowing very well how formidable their hosts are, started the game with a high tempo as they dominated the early exchanges with resulted in Ibrahim Abukari fouling Elvis Kyei Baffour inside the penalty box.

Kyei Baffour made no mistake from the spot kick as he calmly sent the goalkeeper wrong way for the first goal of the game.

It was always going to be a tough test for Liberty as WAFA took hold of the game and dominated after going a goal down with a series of chances but could not make those chances count as the first half ended with the visitors leading by a goal to nil.

On resumption of the second half, WAFA were relentless with their effort to restore parity – they got the equalizer through Samson Agyapong who curled a beauty inside the penalty box.

Their celebrations were cut short as in their quest to get the winner, pushed more men forward and Liberty Professionals punished them for it with Mubarak Alhassan finding the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Liberty Professionals have truncated WAFA’s home dominance in the premier league as they have won back-to-back away games in as many games for the first time – they have never picked a point from the Sogakope Park and to win over there means a lot to them as they hope to build on this performance.
