Rodrygo scored twice to give Real Madrid a 2-1 win against Sevilla

Due to a knee ailment, which according to coach Carlo Ancelotti prevented Vinicius from participating against Rayo Vallecano throughout the week, he did not travel with the club. His absence from the pitch coincides with a major outrage that has spread to his home country of Brazil following his racial abuse by supporters during the match in Valencia last weekend. Even without Vincius there, Ancelotti claimed that the "good" mood in Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium suggested that things would be improving after the game.

Additionally sidelined due to injury were attacker Marco Asensio and midfielder Karim Benzema. The only attacker in Madrid's starting lineup along with five midfielders, 22-year-old Rodrygo fared quite fine on his own. After missing a clear chance to score early on, Rodrygo expressed some displeasure with Ancelotti for switching him off for defender Nacho Fernández with 20 minutes remaining in the game to help preserve the advantage.
