The U.S. men’s national soccer team has qualified for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and lines up against the Netherlands in the first Round of 16 match on Saturday, December 3. The first game in the knockout round will take place at 6 PM local time in Qatar. The Netherlands came atop in their Group A matches with seven points, while the USMNT came in second, but also unconquered, in Group B.
The USMNT has qualified for the knockouts for the third time in the last 12 years. It was largely anticipated to qualify behind England and pulled it off it while remaining unbeaten. The U.S. (16th in FIFA’s world rankings) is said to be the underdog against the Netherlands (8th). However, there have been some surprises already given in this tournament and the USMNT winning is one such shocker.
