"The decision to withdraw the Kazan Super Cup, as part of the exclusion of our clubs and national teams from international competitions, was expected and has nothing to do with sport. [Kazan] has enormous experience in staging top-level international tournaments, including from the point of view of security", said the organization, quoted by the newspaper 'Sport-Express', referring to the fact that Kazan was one of the venues of the 2018 World Cup and the 2017 Confederations Cup, both held in Russia.
The reaction of the Russians comes shortly after the body that oversees European football announced the change of country and, consequently, of stage, after the meeting of the executive committee, in Nyon.
The game that will pit the winner of the Champions League against the winner of the Europa League will take place at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, stronghold of Olympiacos, on 16 August.
